A Framework to COTS Component Selection and Evaluation Processes
نویسنده
چکیده
The process of knowledge acquisition of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) components may provide many difficulties. The existence of a huge amount of diffused information is one of the existing inconveniences related to the selection process. Furthermore, the problem of a choice of a proper methodology supporting COTS component selection and evaluation processes is characterized by a high level of complexity. This paper presents a framework to COTS component selection and evaluation processes. The framework to support COTS component selection and evaluation processes should improve the process of knowledge acquisition of COTS components and methodologies supporting COTS selection

Identifying and Classifying Processes (Traditional and Soft Factors) that Support COTS Component Selection: A Case Study
COTS-Based Systems (CBS) development focuses on building large software systems by integrating previously existing software components. CBS success depends on successful evaluation and selection of Commercial-Off-TheShelf (COTS) software components to fit customer requirements. Literature shows that successful selection of offthe-shelf systems to fit customer requirements remains problematic. T...
متن کاملAGNIESZKA KONYS ONTOLOGY-BASED APPROACH TO COTS COMPONENT SELECTION AND EVALUATION PROCESSES Summary
The process of COTS system selection is difficult due to the large number of existing COTS components on the marketplace. Moreover, a high level of complexity characterizes the process of knowledge acquisition about the available COTS systems. In this paper an approach for COTS selection is proposed. The application of ontology (the ontology for methodologies supporting COTS component selection...
متن کاملAn Empirical Study on COTS Component Selection Process in Norwegian IT Companies
The use of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software has become more and more important in software development. In COTS-based development, COTS component selection is the most crucial phase. Although some selection processes have been proposed, empirical studies are necessary to assess these processes. This paper describes an exploratory study by structured interviews of 16 COTS-based developme...
متن کاملRequirements Engineering for COTS Selection
There is growing interest in the notion of software development through the planned integration of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) products. The potential advantages of this integrationcentric approach are shorter development time and reduced cost. Often a COTS based development process consists of an evaluation, selection, adaptation, integration, and evolution of components obtained from exte...
متن کاملChapter 53 Applying Social - Technical Approach for Cots Selection
Selecting Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software components to fit requirements is still a problem because of the "black box" nature of COTS components and the rapid changes in marketplace. This paper describes the problems of COTS software evaluation and reviews existing frameworks to support COTS software evaluation and selection. Although a number of initiatives have been proposed to deal ...
